The hotel staff were very acommodating and friendly and the hotel is very cloe to all amenities.
Dislikes:
Yes, the 6 flights of stairs to reach the room on top floor. Also shower cubicle and sink could have done with a good clean, and the smell from the tin of month repelent was overwhelming.

We were charged extra for a slightly larger room with a TV with 4 channels.
Because we had an early ferry booked [doesn't everybody] we couldn't have breakfast but were offered a "packed" one....
We had a very restless night with outside noises, and did not enjoy our stay. Quite the opposite of the last one. Read less
Dislikes:
Staicase, paying extra for a noisier room with a defunk TV.

Me and my husband have stayed at the portland once before. We decided to go back to the portland for our first wedding anniversary. Both times we have gone we have always had a wonderful stay. The rooms are very big with sofas to sit on. The hotel is in great location with the town only a 2 min walk away and the hotel is oposite the sea. The food at the hotel is very nice and very good value for money. We will return to the portland again Read less

Sorry nothing. No reflection on the staff they were helpfull and nice. Tired and old Hotel! is that the best I can get on a limited budget
Dislikes:
Sorry just about everything it was'nt my style of place, it needs a makeover, clean but very dated.

Thank you for review. With all respect, we do make it clear in our room descriptions that the rooms are on the third floor and we do not have a lift. The rooms are priced according to their position in the building with the cheapest rooms being on the top floor. Similar rooms in neigbouring hotels which have the benefit of a lift, will be found to be in excess of £100 whereas your price is £55. Do call us if you would like to re-book your room to a lower floor. Kind regards

Standard of furnishings in room, difficult access up steep stairs, noise from ajoining rooms (thin walls), poor shower (low water flow). Noisy bathroom extractor fan. Refurbishment badly needed.

Staff and location are the best thing. Close to beach and town centre. Room more than adequate for 35. That's the same as 2 glasses of champagne at Claridge's Bar in London!
Dislikes:
Shower pressure was very weak, but most likely just the showerhead needs cleaning or replacing. Noisey, inconsiderate neighbours who would let their doors slam shut late at night. (Not a hotel fault)

Hi. Thanks for your response. Polite notices will certainly be produced; thanks for that one. The Fire Regulatory people wanted the doors to close more firmly which as you observed, they now do! Will check the shower; there are electric pumps and might have been turned off. We are quite well known for our food and have a big kitchen crew and whilst some items are pre-prepared; items such as steaks are indeed straight from the fridge and have not been frozen. Hope we will see you again.
