Reception gave us a personal tour of the hotel on arrival. Staff very friendly. Good location on a quiet lane near the beach but the walk is down a steep hill so the return is not for the faint hearted. Well placed for exploring the area. Hotel locked overnight but you get a key to let yourself in if necessary. We were made so welcome that we didn't want to leave. Read less

Large superior room was well equipped (water, fruit, bathrobes, tea making etc). Good views over bay. Excellent food. Big car park.

I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay in 2010. However we have recently taken over the hotel and made many changes to address the problems experienced under the previous managment, such as new menus, staffing and furnishings and as I am sure you will see from the recent reviews we are now getting very good feedback.

The hotel is lovely and situated in a beautiful position high on the cliffs with excellent views to the sea below. We had come to attend a wedding in Exeter and the subsequent reception in Stokeinteignhead. Sadly when we returned at 2300 we met other members of the wedding party who, while able to access the reception area could not progress beyond the fire door which remained locked from the inside. Our instructions from the receptionist were that our keys would allow entry after 2300! Read less

The door issue does need to be resolved as a matter of urgency - we only got in by waking a member of staff. It was also rather a shame that no drinks were available from the bar on our return.

The food was as fine as I have ever had and the service was excellent. Maidencombe where the hotel is located is a lovely area and the hotel rambling and pleasantly querky.
Dislikes:
We were in the rooms at the top of the hotel (sea views) and although not a problem for us (pretty short people...) I think they would have been inconvenient for taller residents. (a health warning?)
