Lovely menu, lively atmosphere in the bar in the evening, good value food, drink and accommodation.
Dislikes:
Stopped serving breakfast at 9am. I would have preferred that to be a bit later at the weekend.

We booked this accommodation on spec because it looked good from what we could see on the net and we love staying in old country inns. I can only say that being there surpassed any of our expectations.
The accommodation was fantastically quirky, retaining its character whilst still being well appointed. The bar atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and the food we had was some of the best we've experienced anywhere.
I would throroughly recommend this place. Read less

Loved the quirkiness of the accommodation, the food we had for our evening meal and the then breakfast the following morning was superb and the staff were all helpful, friendly and attentive.

The accomidation was vry good , and the staff was friendly

We arrived and was showen to our room whitch was lovely , we then said we had a table booked for 8pm on the sunday , they took our order for drinks but failed to say they were running low on roast!!!

A lovely, characterful inn, gave my partner and I a warm welcome from the moment we stepped through the door. Our room was cosy and well appointed and just what we needed for our overnight stay. We ate in the inn for our evening meal. It was sumptuous,filling and a reasonable price.Just what was needed on a chill autumn night. Breakfast, next day was very hearty and nicely prepared, served by a friendly staff member for whom nothing was too much trouble. Thanks to all all at the John Barleycorn! Read less

Photos on the website make the rooms look much nicer than they actually are I'm afraid. Rooms smelled rather damp also. However pub is lovely, staff fantastic and food perfect. I think the website should describe the rooms with more detail to avoid disappointment (4 * is rather misleading) Read less

Again, disappointed by the standard of the rooms as well as rather broken night's sleep due to strange humming sound which happened intermittently overnight.

We had a few drinks in the bar which was cosy and welcoming. The atmosphere was great as it was full of local people. Nearly all the tables were full even though it was a Monday evening. We had a wonderful two course meal. The portions were ample and there was a good choice of food. Read less
