We stayed for 5 nights with our two children aged 6 and 8. We had connecting rooms which for us is the best of both worlds. We found the hotel an excellent base for exploring North Devon and thought the hosts made every effort to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Also greatly appreciated that my husband's and son's special dietary needs were catered for with no fuss. Read less

Great for kids! The playroom, swimming pool, DVD library, buckets and spades to borrow etc. and sense that they were genuinely welcome meant a lot to us and made for a very relaxing stay.

We stayed at the Elmfield for 3 nights with our little daughter. The first night, we were in a 'family suite' that was actually outside the hotel and was not very comfortable, mainly due to the heat. However, when we asked for a different one, we got a very nice room that suited us better. The staff is very friendly and tried hard to make up for the tough night. The pool is great for children. The location is nice, on a lane with great Victorian houses, although some have been abandoned. Breakfast was good, it's nice to have a swim in the pool and the rooms are nicely decorated.
Dislikes:
We did not like the room we had at first, located on the outside of the hotel. It was hot, noisy and the beds were not as comfortable as in the other rooms.

On arrival we had glass of fizzy on the terrace overlooking a mature and secluded garden. We took advantage of the pool(There's a jacuzzi and sauna too) I believe it was full at the time, I would have expect some noise from other guests, but oh what a peaceful nights sleep. Breakfast consisted of fruit compote, plain yoghurt, meat and cheeses, followed by various cooked choices. I was tempted by the cream cheese salmon and caper bagel,but reverted to type and enjoyed the perfect full english. Read less

a warm welcome from the owner, well decorated but not overwelming. The bedroom was described as cosy, it was clean and pretty, The bed linen was spotless,and the pool was great.Top breakfast.
