THe hotel was full of character and ther staff were very cooperative and friendly and the food was to a fair standard. We liked a strong element of Welshness eg breakfast menu was fully bilingual.
Dislikes:
Bedroom and especially bathroom were very small and the property does need refurbishment in a sensitive way and not loose its character.

Many thanks for your warm, friendly review. In a 17th century building rooms and bathrooms do of course vary in size significantly, old exposed timbers a feature in many. Facilities are the same in all rooms. We'll always be happy to try to accomodate in one of the larger rooms if we can, although they often go to families when we put extra beds in. You'll be pleased to learn that the bar and restaurant have just been refurbished taking the floors back to the original beautiful boards.

In an old Inn like the Dragon hospitality is what we are about, so will pass on your comments to those concerned that staff were "helpful and friendly" You also left a message that you'd have preferred a shower to a bath - we certainly have rooms with proper shower cubicles rather than an over bath shower - please let us know in advance and we'll do our best. As a 17th century Inn with old exposed stone and timber The Dragon really still is like an old Coaching Inn: being at the heart of Montgomery the former County Town that is in many ways more like a village and The dragon still plays a role in everyday Community life too.

Handy location, Montgomery is a lovely town

We are sorry for the delay, I thought that I'd explained personally to everyone in the bar the evening before, if I missed you I apologise. The kitchen was under several inches of water; so what you couldn't see going on was staff battling with mops and squeegees - less committed staff wouldn't have worked at all. Montgomery's troubles even made the national news with a part of the bowling green being washed away. We hope that you will return to enjoy our normal level of service.

We were unlucky to be at the hotel on an evening when the heavens opened and flooded parts of the kithcjen so that there were no desserts and a limited menu. Having paid 50% deposit on a 2-night Dinner. B & B weekend, we therefore had to order off the set menu and this incurred extra charges - and the bill was inaccurately calculated. The second night was Saturday and we waited for 2hours to complete our meal. The food was mostly good but we were disappointed with the inefficiencies. Read less

Montgomery is a charming and well-kept town, easy to get around and in a wonderful setting for walking, which is why we chose it. The hotel was old-fashioned in a pleasant way with many good features.
Dislikes:
As above - slow service, bill errors (eventually rectified when discussed), one or two staff in need of training.

Many thanks for the nice things that you said about the ambience at The Dragon. We are truly sorry that you felt our staff were inefficient: they were battling through a kitchen with several inches of water for most of the weekend - the stores still aren't completely dry 5 days later. For the billing error I certainly apologise but am ready to excuse staff who had worked so hard all weekend. We do hope that one day you will return to Montgomery and The Dragon when the sun is shining.

The staff are very friendly and helpful and give the impression that nothing is too much to make your stay enjoyable. The food is excellent.
Dislikes:
The bathroom was a little grubby and the shower head was full of mould, which was passed back as part of our feedback when we left so I would assume would be addressed.

I liked the friendly nature of the owners and staff of the hotel. The bar was more like what I've always heard British and Irish pubs to be. The atmosphere was cordial, and the fare was good!

Good sized bedroom.
Lots of hot water.
Good sized bath.
Dislikes:
The foot board at the end of the bed: no good for tall people.
The tuneless "music" in the bar and restautant.

Wished I'd been on a leisure break rather than working on interview presentations as I'd have liked to enjoy more of the facilities such as the pool and sauna.
Dislikes:
I would have preferred a duvet but still slept well. Whilst my bathroom was fine I did miss a proper overhead shower.
