Arrived earlier than was expected, this obviously annoyed the owner, Mark, who was rude and had no social skills whatsoever. Arif, his partner was lovely and seemed to do all the work. Later, my husband accidentily banged the front door, which brought Mark out, who instead of just asking nicely, careful with the door, shouted at him! No cooked breakfast on offer and a dirty throw on the bed with stains, and the real worry was too many plugs (seven) stuck in extension leads! Read less

Not alot, Mark saw me to the door when we checked out, I turned to say thanks and he shut the door in my face.

I am sorry that you feel so annoyed by me, but you exaggerate somewhat: I do not shout at my guests and I do not close the door in their face! For your information a few days before you came I was told I have advanced cancer.
You also exaggerate about the electrical sockets. All of our electrical appliances are tested annually, in line with the law.

This has been our second stay at Nineteen, we chose it again as we really enjoyed staying there 3 years ago. The staff are so friendly, welcoming, courteous and attentive to our needs. The breakfast choices are great and filling and arrive at the time requested. The room was light and airy with a choice of CDs, a DVD player (DVD library available). Plugs for seagull noise also included! Appreciated the room information/recommendations to eat booklet too. Read less

The choice of breakfast available, friendliness of the staff, location (convenient for the Marathon finish and other parts of the route), easy access to the Laines, seafront and eateries. Perfect!

Wish I'd found the earplugs left in welcome pack at beginning of the stay (pack said earplugs were there because of the seagulls but if you have a room at the front of the hotel you need them either because of the building works going on or the bar at the end of the street). Facilities were clean. Location was great for shopping and evenings out and also seeing the marathon. Staff were friendly and breakfast was good considering only a continental breakfast was offered.
Dislikes:
Lack of sleep! The location really backfired on us. Great that it was so close to the front but the bar at the end of the road was so noisy, people in the street were noisy, fights broke out etc.

Sorry you were disturbed by noise in the street. Brighton is a party town at weekends and drunk youths can make noise wherever you are staying. To clarify for readers of this review: there is a small and quiet gay bar on our street, and a gay hotel and bar at the other end - neither of which attracts loud fighting drunks. The house opposite is being redecorated; it's not building works. We're a 200 year old building and we are not allowed double glazing. But as you say, we do provide ear plugs.

Boutique hotel, unfussy and unpretentious. Very friendly, a lot of attention to detail - suggestions of where to go and where to eat out were particularly welcome. Free Dvd/Cd rental, super breakfast.

The King room had a very comfortable bed that had lovely lights in the base and headboard of the bed creats a nice atmosphere after a night out on the town. the breakfast was beautiful!
