Likes:
The extraordinary building, its character, its murals and paintings, its ambience. It's so full of Elizabethan/Shakespearean history that it's almost theme park England.
Dislikes:
A building of this age is not designed for privacy! The walls are thin. The bathroom was basic - really much too basic for the price.

We stayed for 2 nights for my husbands birthday. We stayed in Dr Syns room, a lovely big bright room. There is a king size bed and a single in this room. The bathroom only has a bath though, no shower… Read more

We stayed for 2 nights for my husbands birthday. We stayed in Dr Syns room, a lovely big bright room. There is a king size bed and a single in this room. The bathroom only has a bath though, no shower. We ate in the restaurant both nights and on both occasions the food was lovely. Breakfast is cooked to order and delicious. The staff are lovely and work hard to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. Read less

Staying in a central location and the beautiful old hotel, fabulous!
Dislikes:
the only down side I can think of was no shower in the bathroom but then the hotel is ancient so can't ocmplain too much, and the king size bed creaked every time we moved, waking us up quite a bit.

The quirkiness of the building is lots of fun and the atmosphere in the bar and lounge was very laid-back and relaxing. The staff were generally very helpful and friendly.
Dislikes:
The building is very noisy and creaky (as is the plumbing), and the sound transference from room to room is very disturbing! Would suggest leaving earplugs for guests in the rooms

Rooms too noisy, could have joined in the conversation of the people next door. Suspect thin walls constructed to make more rooms.

very comfortable bed, and cosy intimate public areas.
Dislikes:
Floor in gents toilet in bar area, had been mopped over but black stains left in grooves, and behind the door had not been cleaned. Dust left on skirting board in bedroom.

Wonderful historic hotel full of character and charm with log fires roaring in the guest lounges. Gourmet food and first class service in the restaurant.
Dislikes:
Car park is very small and very congested.
