"Hotel Closed"
I cannot believe that you have the temerity to ask me how my stay was. We arrived to find the hotel boarded up, and discovered that it had closed down 2 months previously. I find it hard to believe that in the preceding two months nobody has previously raised this issue. I contacted Eviivo on Saturday morning and am still awaiting a response. At the very least all people who have booked should have been informed of the closure. Read less

The Royal Hotel, an elegant Grade II listed building with its unique gold dome, has been a place of welcome to travellers since the early part of the nineteenth century. Situated in the heart of the thriving town of Hexham, the hotel dominates the street of Priestpopple.
Built in 1820, the original coaching house was known as the 'New' or 'Low Grey Bull', eventually to become 'The Royal Hotel' in around 1870. The new owners took over in early 2008 with a vision to restore The Royal Hotel to its former glory. with the introduction of an exclusive Thai restaurant the Thai Royal Orchid.
Hexham itself (population 11,300) is a prominent market town that dates back to 674 AD. Many historic buildings still survive - among them the 12th Century Abbey, with its original 7th Century Saxon crypt (built from stone taken from nearby Hadrian's Wall), and the Old Gaol, the oldest gaol in England, now the site of the Border History Museum and the Hexham Tourist Information Centre.
