The Milecastle Inn is located in one of the most important areas along the Roman Wall. With a view to Hadrian’s Wall only 500 metres from the door, our comfortable cottages are set in the heart of Englands largest heritage site. There is a traditional pub/restaurant next to the cottages which is well renowned for good food locally sourced and local real ales. The pub menu contains a lot of meals and some desserts which are gluten free.No need to worry about noise, there is none from the pub.

Super accommodation that was very well equipped.
Dislikes:
We would have liked internet access (or mobile coverage) in the cottage.
Response from The Milecastle Inn:
Thankyou for a lovely review, we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us.
We are looking into providing internet access in the cottages, at the moment there is free access in our pub next door.
Kind regards

Likes:
great range of kitchen bits and pieces. Shared laundry very handy. left in peace to enjoy the week.Handy to drive to all best forts and towns if walking got too much. The wall here is very strenuous
Dislikes:
bedroom very compact but bed good.
Response from The Milecastle Inn:
Thankyou for a lovely review, the cottages are only adequate for 2 people as you have said, they are compact but comfortable.
There is rarely any noise from the pub as it is mainly used by diners. There is the odd time when we have a lot of the locals in, mainly the evening of the local agricultural show.
Again as you said we are usually closed quite early.
Kind regards
Kevin and Clare Hind

The Milecastle Inn is located in one of the most important areas along the Roman Wall. There are more sites of Roman camps in the fields around us than anywhere else on the Wall. It was here the Stanegate, the earlier Roman road, that ran from Corstopitum to Luguvallium (Corbridge to Carlisle) was closest to the construction site of the Wall.
Visitors can use the cottages as a base whilst walking the length of Hadrian’s Wall (in stages of course) or alternatively keen cyclists can join the new Hadrian’s Wall Cycle Route which follows the wall for 174 miles and runs past the cottages.
Salmon fishing can be enjoyed along a 10 mile stretch of the River Tyne near the small market town of Haltwhistle which is famously known as the “Centre of Britain”.During the holiday season there is an open air swimming pool with a gymnasium, squash court and other leisure facilities in Haltwhistle.
Milecastle Cottages are ideally situated for those wishing to enjoy a golfing holiday with a number of quality courses within a 20 mile radius Carlisle, Brampton, Hexham, Matfen Hall and Slaley Hall to name but a few.
The cottages are ideal to use as a base if you wish to visit some of our beautiful heritage landmarks, Hexham Abbey, Carlisle Castle, Tullie House Carlisle. Also Beamish Museum is a fantastic open air mining village with old shops, dentist, pit houses and a mine you can walk down.Newcastle Has a number of museums,a lovely quayside which runs along the Tyne. There is a large indoor shopping centre known as the Metro. All these are within a 40 mile radius.
