Self Assessed 4 Stars Guest House

The Shoe Inn is a 15th century coaching inn, situated just on the edge of the New Forest on the A36, has been welcoming hungry travellers ever since 1430 and is steeped in history.

Today it is a family-run free house with an elegant rustic interior and a pretty terrace garden. The Shoe Inn is renowned for its quality home-cooked food and is the perfect retreat for a relaxing weekend away or a comfortable overnight stop. Each of the 4 charming en suite bedrooms are situated on the first floor, 2 are located on the busy roadside of the building and all the rooms are equipped with a colour television and tea/coffee making facilities.

The Shoe Inn has A beautifully-crafted thatched roof protects the original inn. Built in 1420 the Shoe Inn took its name from the cavalry troops who frequented it when travelling from the garrison in Salisbury to the port of Marchwood. Seen from the main road, it’s an attractive black-and-cream half-timber structure, built around 1640 when the inn became a posting station for mail coaches.
