Description

Self Assessed 4 Stars Guest House

Katalena is located in the delightful village of Thornton Le-dale that offers plenty of history & ancient churches (one in Elleburn) the Dalby beck that runs through the village and passes by the picturesque thatched cottage, most of us recognize on biscuit & chocolate tins, postcards etc. The village offers plenty of Shops, a Chocolate Factory, Restaurants, Hairdresser, Tea Rooms, Pubs, a Post office, and a Pharmacy.

People love coming to the area for the cycling, and painting the beautiful landscapes etc, other attractions include:

•North Yorkshire Railway

•Eden Camp (P.O.W) Camp Malton

•York Racecourse

•Castle Howard Stately Home

•The Dalby Forest

•Heartbeat TV Set

•Scarborough (Theatre)

•York City – Viking Centre, National Railway, York Minster

Dalby Forest is situated on the southern slopes of the North York Moors National Park. The southern part of the forest is divided by a number of valleys creating a 'Rigg and Dale' landscape whilst to the north the forest sits on the upland plateau. Clear streams arising in springs run north and south out of the forest. A lake has been created at Staindale.

The forest is a home for birds such as the crossbill and that elusive summer visitor the nightjar. Roe deer abound and badgers, the symbol of the forest, are a very common but nocturnal resident.
