We can trace the existing building back to 1806, but a public house is recorded as existing on this site since 1701. The Pub today has two bars: a lounge bar with a restaurant, a large public bar also serving food (pets welcome) and a private dining / function room.

There is a large garden at the rear with mature borders which offers a great space for relaxing in the summer, especially with the large children’s play area. There is a patio to the left of our building which brings an element of Café culture to the village with continental style dining and socializing. We also have a full marquee to cover this area for weddings that can sit 60 people.

The Hotel has 6 bedrooms with the doubles all having en-suite bathrooms.

The Lounge bar is traditional in its décor and ambience. The open fire, carpets and furniture add to the comfortable and relaxed feeling of this bar. The restaurant seats around 50 people for lunchtime and evening food or all day eating on Saturday, Sunday’s and Bank Holiday’s. Look out for the Specials Board and extensive Wine List. The dining / function room is at the rear of the lounge bar and seats 40 people.

There is a large bay window which overlooks the hotel gardens and we believe the room was originally the pub’s smoke house with rows of hanging hooks still visible in the beams. The toilets are located in what was once the pub’s original wine cellar.
The Public bar is open plan and has leather sofas & leather bench seating throughout. The bar has a lively and traditional community pub feel about it and live music events are held regularly.

We are close to the towns of Royston, Baldock, Letchworth. Biggleswade and Hitchin. Ashwell is only 15 miles from the city of Cambridge and London is only 45 miles away by car. The main line station that runs to Kings Cross and Cambridge services Ashwell.
