"Ghost Town"
Prior to arrival we had been informed that a receptionist would not be available amd our keys would be left on a notice board. We didn't realise the hotel wouldn't be open at all so we had to let ourselfs in and find the room and there wwas no one around, we didn't see anyone until breakfast the next day, where the gentleman didn't even enquire about our stay or if we had found the room ok. He was helpful with breakfast and that was it. Read less
Dislikes:
Lack of hospitality, lack of face to face contact, had to make my own toast, no hairdryer in the room.

The Shrubbery Hotel and Bistro re-opened in July 2008 following six months refurbishment and modernization. Housed in a former rectory it is owned and operated by Eric Bow and his team. They aim to give you a relaxed and comfortable stay in your home away from home.
A cosy retreat from the world, for both locals and travellers alike. The hotel has seven individually styled bedrooms, gorgeous bistro food, an authentic Pizzeria and a well stocked bar.
The bar has a lovely atmosphere, with lots of real ales, local ciders, international beers a cosy fireplace, chilled music and chilled wine. In the restaurant our chefs serve great home cooked food, locally sourced wherever possible including locally reared steaks If guests so wish they can enjoy their food in our lovely garden, where on fine weekends we often host a BBQ.
All our rooms are ensuite and are completed with flat screen TV's. There are tea and coffee making facilities in each room as well as complementary toiletries and trouser press. We have double rooms and a triple room and we also have one family suite that will sleep four. In the morning a lovely continental or full English breakfast is served.
The hotel is located in Shepton Mallet and is ideally situated for walking holidays in the Mendip Hills. We are Only 4 miles from the world famous Glastonbury festival site and Glastonbury Abbey. We are 2 miles from the Bath and West Showground and within easy transportation or driving distance from many Somerset attractions. These include Wells Cathedral, Frome, and the Caves of Cheddar Gorge and Wookey hole. The lions of Longleat are only 12 miles away and the lovely Georgian City of Bath is only a short country drive away.
