We had lunch in the pub before we checked in at 3pm. Relaxing afternoon, I was concerned that our room seemed to be above the kitchen but I never heard a thing. Very nice bath in room, staff were friendly and helpful. We booked a 3 course dinner with our stay which is good value as you can choose off the same menu as paying diners and choose your meal regardless of price! Breakfast was nice with a good choice. It was all very nice.
Dislikes:
My only gripe was we booked a four poster bedroom but we did not get it. The hotel did e-mail us straight away and explain the booking site had not updated quickly enough so not the hotels fault.

Exceptional - from the welcome (3 times asked if I'd like help with our bags), rooms, drinks (4 real ales on draught!), food, service - this place had it all just right. Not over the top, not pretentious, a genuinely friendly hotel for which nothing was too much trouble. Read less

The staff was very kind.
Dislikes:
The room was not fully clean. I found hair in the shower. Furthermore, they did not change the towels after the first night, even a towel that was fully dirty. I found this towel in the hanger again.
Response from The Kings Head:
We are very sorry that your experience at The Kings Head was not to our usual standard. We pride ourselves on our 4* status and our commitment to a fantastic customer experience.
We have addressed your cleaning issues with our housekeeper but would like to add that due to our commitment to helping the environment we do not replace used towels for a 2 night stay unless requested.
I am also dissappointed for your rating of our breakfast, which i believe you chose not to order and ate musli.

We offer a warm welcome and traditional rural hospitality to rival all other inns and hotels in Winchester.

The King’s Head was built during the heyday of the coaching era in 1810 and the road outside would have been on one of the major arterial routes across the South Coast.

Each of our individually designed en-suite bedrooms offers all the comfort and facilities that you would hope to find in a small country hotel whilst retaining an individual atmosphere that guests from Georgian times would recognise. The rooms take their names from previous incumbents of the Hursley Estate right back to when first records began.

The King’s Head is a free house and this has allowed us to put together a diverse assortment of local and regional ales and the finest ciders and lagers available. We usually offer a seasonally changing ‘guest beer’ as well as our regular ales. More details of the ales and the brewers can be found through the links to the left.

Wines are sourced from a number of local as well as London-based merchants giving us a broad and global coverage and we take great care in stocking and cellaring our wines. Please click on the following link for an example of our wine list.

Refreshment both hot and cold is available throughout the day and evening in an informal atmosphere with plenty of room for everyone including families with children and dogs are always welcome!

The village of Hursley is most well known for its strong associations with the family of Oliver Cromwell; it is for this reason that it is believed the King's Head originally gained its name.

Our aim is to provide a relaxed and cheerful environment for locals and visitors alike in which to enjoy locally sourced ales, fine wines, home-cooked food, or even a night or two in one of our carefully restored rooms.
