St John's has a Gold Award from CBEN for its environmental management systems. St John's uses solar energy to heat water, they have fitted energy saving gas boilers. There are dual flush toilets fitted in most rooms. Low energy light fittings and bulbs are used in the rooms. St John's recycles paper, cardboard, glass, tins and plastic.
