Exquisite food, welcoming, friendly service. Lovely surroundings overlooking Newlyn Harbour. Ensuite bedroom was lovely with all accessories needed ie tea/coffee making facilities, toiletries, hairdryer, iron & board, television & radio, small balcony, table and chairs. The only drawback for some people would be no car park, due to the nature of the narrow streets and town although there is one close by. Read less

The hospitality and food.

If you have a vehicle, the down side is that parking has to be in a car park nearby. A 24 hour ticket just down the way by the fish quay costs £5. This was no great problem for us.

Newlyn has the largest fishing fleet in the south of the country, with its medieval quay dating back to 1437. The front part of the Smugglers dates back to the early 1700s, when it was a number of small dwellings. Over the years the Smugglers has had a variety of uses; it was once a sweet shop and a dressmakers. It has been run as a hotel and restaurant since the early 1950s.
Newlyn has attracted artists over the years, T C Gotch first came to the area in 1880. The first artist to settle here was Walter Langley, he made Newlyn his home in 1882. Stanhope Forbes arrived in 1884 and throughout the rest of the 1880's the colony grew, drawn by the quality of light and the wonderful scenery. The Smugglers has on display a variety of work by some leading local artists depicting Newlyn life.
The Smugglers Restaurant overlooks Newlyn Harbour with views across Mount's Bay to St. Michael's Mount
There is a Guest Lounge with wi-fi internet access and a Cellar Bar where you are welcome to have a pre dinner drink or to enjoy a coffee after your meal.
With the fishing fleet landing their catch just moments away, quality and freshness are assured. We offer a wide variety of local fish and shellfish, with meat and vegetarian options always available. We are great supporters of Cornish produce and strive to acquire the finest local ingredients from top quality local suppliers.
