"Enchanting blend of olde worlde traditional pub with excellent menus and a beautiful luxurious room"
This was an Anniversary short stay, and we found the location ideal; unusually for a traditional pub, the Royal Oak is very peaceful, as the main road has been moved a 100m north. The pub is set next to the charming ancient church at Brookland which has its spire set down at ground level. We toured the local area and were mesmorised by the stark beauty of the Dungeness peninsular, especially with the total snow cover bringing a surreal 'Narnia' like atmosphere. Thoroughly recommended. We chose the 'Fairfield' room and this is the room to go for if available. It is spacious, with a double aspect and with delightful views of the owners ponies in the adjacent paddocks. Food excellent.

That it lived up to its description. Good food, good accommodation, very peaceful location. As it says quite clearly it is not a hotel.

The Royal Oak, Brookland is located on the beautiful Romney Marshes. This wonderful village inn is steeped in history and for well over 270 years it has afforded shelter and sustenance to locals, travellers passing through and to those visiting the area. Today it continues to offer as warm a welcome to visitors as ever in its long history.

The location of The Royal Oak is attractive to those who seek a quiet spot, away from the hustle and bustle of modern day life, or for those keen to explore the area. The inn, although ancient, has recently been sympathetically renovated and re-furnished.

Here in a corner of Kent is a peaceful old village, enveloped in quietude and restfulness, tucked away in the middle of the beautiful and mysterious Romney Marsh, with its sleepy winding lanes, one of the few remaining unspoilt areas of south east England. Surrounding the village is open farmland offering an atmosphere of rare tranquility. Rich meadowland dotted with flocks of sheep, for which Romney Marsh is synonymous, is interspersed with remote lying arable farms.

Brookland is an ideal village in which to stay, being located nearby to:
• Camber Sands
• Rye
• Dungeness
• Tenterden
• Steam Trains – Romney, Hythe, & Dymchurch miniature railway, plus the Kent & Sussex railway at Tenterden
• RSPB Reserves at Rye Harbour & Dungeness
• Country Walks
• National Trust historic properties – Sissinghurst & Bodiam Castle
• English Heritage – Dover Castle
• Folkestone Race Course
• Easy rail travel to London (37 minutes to/from London St Pancras!) and European destinations from Ashford Intern'l Station (only 15 minutes drive from The Royal Oak), or Le Shuttle Terminal (only 25 minutes drive)
• Canterbury

Whatever interests, whether they are bird watching, cycling, fishing, golf, walking, the sea, shopping, water sports, fine dining, relaxing, to visiting historic towns, or ancient churches & castles, Romney Marsh & its surrounding area has something for everyone.
