"A lovely cosy retreat"
We had a wonderful 3 night stay, without our children for the first time in ages. Couldn't have stayed in a better place. Sally and Steve manage that difficult balance of making you feel completely at home and yet pampered at the same time. Nothing is ever too much trouble. A great location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. Read less

Poppy Cottage Guest House is a delightful 17th Century cottage, awarded 4* silver in June 2010 for its high quality of accommodation and for the 2nd year running a 'Certificate of Excellence' from Tripadvisor. Situated in the village of Carleton-in-Craven, just 2 miles from the historical, market town of Skipton, with its 4 day open air market, Poppy Cottage is the ideal base for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the town and sample a 'cottage' style B&B, whilst exploring Skipton and the Dales.

Carleton has its own local pub which serves delicious meals until 8.30pm, Post Office, Village Store and Farm Shop and and has some lovely local walks taking you around the village. If you prefer to leave the car behind, you can comfortably walk into Skipton using the public footpath across open fields, crossing the River Aire. Then take one of the hourly buses back from Skipton into the village.

Poppy Cottage has been sympathetically restored in 2009 and each individually designed bedroom enjoys views of the countryside and hills beyond. Each room comes complete with its own flatscreen TV with freeview and DVD player (DVD library available), towels and bathrobes, complimentary toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities with fresh milk available from the guests fridge situated in the dining room, locally made Bronte biscuits and mints. Breakfast is served in what was the orginal farm kitchen with the exposed inglenook fireplace and Yorkshire stone flagged floor.

Breakfast is served using our own 'flavoursome' sausage and bacon from our ourdoor reared pigs and local produce from one of Skipton's award winning butchers and in July 2010 we received our Enjoy England - Breakfast Award in recognition of this.

We are also very proud of the fresh eggs we serve courtesy of 'the girls'. We have ample private parking for guests and lovely south-facing decked gardens, accessed from the guest lounge

We re-cycle all paper, plastics, glassand tin cans and use low energy bulbs throughout. We are always happy to refresh towels but do not change daily.
