Likes:
The rooms were very clean and facilities excellent, the use of the communal living room made the stay feel more homely. Rather than having to sit in your room it was nice to have somewhere to watch TV
Dislikes:
would have been useful if it was clearly advertised that evening meals were available to order.

Formerly the village school, Muncaster Country Guest House is now a four star guest house full of character and charm. Owners Sue & Vin invite you to enjoy the relaxing and informal home from home atmosphere and offer you a friendly welcome whether your stay is short or long, for business or pleasure.

All our rooms are situated on the ground floor are well equipped with televisions, hairdryers and hospitality tray. A guest lounge with log burning stove provides a welcoming place to sit after a long day’s sight-seeing, cycling or walking on the fells. There is also a selection of maps and books which guest are welcome to borrow during their stay.

Top quality food is a priority and most ingredients are sourced locally for the substantial cooked breakfasts and evening meals, which are available on request. Both are served in the breakfast room overlooking the garden with its abundance of natural wildlife including woodpeckers, nuthatches and many other birds.

Parking is available in the car park that was formerly the school playground. For Visitors arriving by train we can, by arrangement, pick you up from Ravenglass Station. We also have secure storage available for push bikes.

The guest house is ideally situated yards from the entrance to Muncaster Castle with it famous gardens and world owl centre. The coastal village of Ravenglass is a mile away, home to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway and the start of Hadrian’s Cycleway. Wasdale with Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain and deepest lake, Wastwater, is only a 15min drive. There are many attractive walks directly from the Guest House, for all abilities, from ambles to strenuous fell walking. The guest house also provides an excellent base for exploring the central lakes.

Discerning tourist are discovering that Cumbria’s Western Lake District has all the Lake District's inherent appeal but without the drawbacks of congested roads and overloaded amenities.
