"A comfortable stay in a lovely area"
A comfortable stay in a lovely room (converted from an old hayloft)with large well appointed bathroom, lots of hot water, and plenty of space. Well cooked food and efficient service, although one of us felt the menu was slightly unimaginative (fairly traditional, no frills).
Cooked breakfast was good, but it would have been nice to have a better choice of non-cooked food - fruit, yoghurt etc. Although efficient, the staff could have been warmer. Read less

"Top Stay"
The Horse and Jockey Inn is highly recommended by me. The Inn is a 14th century building with rooms in the converted hay loft. The rooms are a good size with a large ensuite bathroom. The rooms are one thing, what made our stay great was the friendly staff and locals we met in the aptly named Snug Bar at the front of the Inn. Here we were able to have meals for lunch and dinner which were reasonably priced and really nice. The specials were great for dinner. The bar was a place where we were abl Read less

While the rooms where very comfortable I mostly enjoyed sitting in the bar chatting with the locals and having a few beers with our meals. The town is very compact and it was a great place to stop to
Dislikes:
Nothing at all.

The Horse and Jockey Inn is a 14th Century Coaching Inn with six newly built ensuite rooms, a large restaurant and two bars.
Run by the same family since 1989 and located in the centre of Knighton Town a few minutes walk from the train station.
The Horse and Jockey Inn is set around a courtyard offering a cosy snug bar with a log fire, main bar with pool room & at the end of the courtyard a popular 80 seater restaurant, which was originally the stables, booking recommended.
Above the Restaurant the Hayloft has been converted into 6 ensuite rooms, all tastefully decorated with flat screen television, spacious modern bathrooms and tea/coffee tray. There are 5 twin rooms each with two single beds and one superior double with a kingsize bed.

The Welsh name for Knighton is Tref-y-Clawdd which means "Town on the Dyke" and it is the only Town that stands right on Offa's Dyke. Knighton is the home of the Offa's Dyke Centre and is the natural base from which to explore The Dyke.

The Dyke was built toward the end of the 8th Century by King Offa to separate the kingdoms of Mercia from Wales. It ran for 149 miles from Chepstow to Prestatyn and some 80 miles of The Dyke is still traceable today.

Knighton is steeped in history with sloping winding streets and half timbered houses, the older part of the Town has a grid of streets reminiscent of an Edwardian plantation.

Knighton is easily reached by road or rail with the Heart of Wales Line running through the Town and linking Swansea with Shrewsbury.

Knighton is an area of truly outstanding natural beauty and is a good place to stay whether you are striding the length of Offa's Dyke or exploring the surrounding area.
