We thought we had grabbed a real bargain, the thought of eating a superb meal, quaffing fine real ales and relaxing in the warm glow of a log fire on Valentines day. The menu had changed in reality but not on the web,no carvery, no scallops,and a far inferior cheeseboard left us in doubt whether we would eat there. The fact that there was insufficient firewood to last the night (they were burning barstools) and they had run out of real ales, made our minds up for us - we went into town and ate. Read less

The rooms were warm and functional.
Oliver was a terrific host, there when you needed him and never in your face, nothing was too much trouble for him. Breakfast was fantastic.
Dislikes:
No decent beer
Not the menu we'd planned to have
No firewood (logs are three quid a bag!)
