Location, wildlife, space, food. What was not to like.
Dislikes:
The towels smelled musty, but this was a very minor point.
Response from Firwood Bed & Breakfast:
Mike and I are really pleased you enjoyed your stay - and that you even managed The Cheviot, despite the weather! My apologies for the towels, I should follow my instincts. I stopped using Ecover products a few years ago because of the odour but have recently gone back to them as they promised a new, fresh, fragrance. I didn't think so! Thank you for pointing it out to us. Mike and Beth.

Firwood is a period property and retains many of it's original features, including fireplaces - the lounge fireplace is lit in the winter months. All rooms are on the ground floor and there is a large gravelled area to the front of the house for parking. The bedrooms are spacious, with flat screen televisions, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers and bathrobes. The en-suites have soft, thick towels and a range of toiletries, including the little things you may have forgotten like a toothbrush!
If you are coming to walk the Cheviot Hills, we can help with maps and walk ideas. Indeed, leave your car at Firwood and walk into the Harthope Valley behind us with the Cheviot itself and Hedgehope, two of the highest mountains in the range, at it's end. If you are exploring the wider area of North Northumberland, then Firwood is an ideal base whether you are looking at the magificent coastal strip, just 18 miles as the crow flies, the Borders, or south to Rothbury, Alnwick etc.
We have secure lock up for cycles, the B&B is a couple of fields away from Route 68 and we can advise on many circular routes - Wooler is a designated Cycle Hub.
Wooler, our nearest town, is a thriving former market town with a good range of specialist shops and eating places. Take your pick of the cafes during the day and for evening dining, there is a choice of traditional English fare or world cuisine from Italian to Indian. You may not have heard of Wooler before but it tends to be a place people come back to once they have discovered it

We use local produce where we can and do our best to minimise waste. We recycle as much as possible, compost bins for kitchen waste, glass, paper, tins etc. to local banks. As we are on spring water, we try to conserve as much water as possible, we have shower heads which use a new technology giving a good shower but saving water and power. Rain water is collected in buts for garden use. Toiletries are supplied by a family run company using high quality natural ingredients and recycled packaging. We are very keen on supporting our local wildlife, especially the Red Squirrel which visit our garden. We have feeders and nesting boxes for the Red's as well as a host of feeders and boxes for the many and diverse birds which come into our garden. Planting around the garden is aimed at attracting bees and butterflies -we won a 'Bee Friendly' award from the Northumberland National Park for attracting the 'big 6' and mo
