"Interesting potential"
Very friendly hostess, but we had to hear about problems relating to updating that was needed every time we had breakfast and at other times. Breakfast for two seemed a struggle with both of us wanting something different ie boiled eggs and fried.Rather annoyed at not being told beforehand of faulty shower. Read less
Likes:
The views and location and the slight eccentricity and genuine love of the owner of their home. She was amusing and made a huge effort to make us feel most welcome at her lovely home. Bed comfortable
Dislikes:
It was obvious that it is an uphill battle with ongoing problems and flying solo is obviously hard for this very warm and welcoming educated lady.

Response from Carlton Seamill Bed & Breakfast:
Thank you, Mark! I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. Likewise, I enjoyed your company! I'm delighted that you appreciated Carlton Seamill. We do indeed have very special things to offer here - our outstanding Victorian family home, our wonderful coastal location, and our spectacularly beautiful view of Arran. We maintain the house much as it has always been, preserving its lovely Victorian character and its wealth of original period detailing. It's a real, unspoiled Victorian architectural "gem"!

"Safe, secure, convenient, great view of Arran, house from 1874 unchanged."
Avril made certain my stay was successful by calling and writing many sources to insure I had a chance to get a tour of my family castle. If you want to step back in time, here is a chance to see the late 19th century in a home which has a great view of the island Arran. Many choices to go to dinner very close by. Read less
Likes:
The ability to see my family castle just down the road when Avril made a focused effort to contact someone in our family clan off season. This was the purpose of my trip to the area. I could tour all.
Dislikes:
Traveling alone, it got tiring to drive without a navigator by myself on such an important tour. It was cold and damp in November too. The B+B had everything needed, but not as heated as a hotel.
Response from Carlton Seamill Bed & Breakfast:
Thank you, William! You were a great guest, and it was a pleasure having you to stay. We do indeed do all we can to ensure guests have a happy and successful time here. We're "elegant, charming and hospitable", as our web-site says. Restoration of the Old Summer House - and the surrounding Victorian garden - will start AFTER we've finished restoring Carlton Seamill itself. It's a very exciting and worthwhile architectural project which may take several years to complete. (Onwards and upwards!)

ARCHITECTURE AND ENVIRONMENT
For guests who love traditional Victorian architecture and panoramic Scottish scenery, Carlton Seamill has much to offer. An impressive, stone-built, Scottish Victorian house, dated 1883, Carlton occupies an ideal location at Seamill, on the Ayrshire coast. It enjoys a commanding view, over Seamill shore and beach, to the world-famous Firth of Clyde and the beautiful, mountainous Isle of Arran.

The Rennie Family have cherished Carlton carefully, for some 60 years. With its original period features mostly still intact, it is a fine example of a Scottish Victorian family home. Guests frequently remark on the house’s relaxing, “get-away-from-it-all” atmosphere and on the craftsmanship, style and graciousness that are characteristic of the Victorian era.

On the ground-floor, the handsome, historically-detailed reception rooms afford magnificent views, over the Rose Garden and the Croquet Lawn, towards the peaks of Arran. Throughout the house, Carlton’s elegant Victorian staircase conveys a feeling of light and spaciousness, leading to the comfortable, first-floor guest-accommodation.

DIRECT BEACH ACCESS
Carlton’s west-facing garden-gate provides easy access to Seamill’s extensive, sandy beach – only a stone’s-throw away. Our guests typically enjoy walking along the beach on a lovely evening, watching the wheeling flocks of seabirds and the gregarious colonies of seals. Fabulous, red-and-gold sunsets are Seamill's special feature!
Environmental Statement
Carlton Seamill tries to minimise its environmental impact by using energy-efficient lightbulbs and recycling domestic-waste, where possible. Our large, leafy Victorian garden is a natural haven for birds and wild-life.
