"Lovely surroundings; so much potential"
We have dined out at the Clonyard several times in the past when up in the area on holiday, and the evening meals - in the relaxed pub area - are delicious. This time our visit took the form of an overnight stay for two.
Our room, though, was disappointing. We realised it would be in a motel-like annexe, which was fine. However, the room was very cold on arrival and took a long time to warm up (once we realised someone had left a single-glazed slat Read less

The evening meal, again, was very good, and the main building is beautiful and characterful, in lovely quiet surroundings.
Dislikes:
Our room was very cold (this was a winter visit)and the duvets thin. Blankets from the wardrobe covered in hair, and dirty socks down the back of the bed. One of (only 2) UHT milks had curdled.

"Latest in a long line of visits"
A very pleasant short break with my young daughter. I have used the Clonyard for many years and it has retained its friendly, relaxed atmosphere with excellent food. I have seen a review that criticised the carpets in part of the hotel but these were being replaced as we left. Our room was fine and very clean. Read less

Dumfries and Galloway has always been the undiscovered southern corner of Scotland. The scenery ranges from coastal plains and craggy cliffs to upland moorland with more than a hint of wilderness.

The hotel is just 25 minutes drive from Dumfries. Numerous small villages are dotted about the countryside, each with its own individual charm. The country town of Kirkcudbright is well known in art circles for its historical connections with the 'Glasgow Boys'.

Most of our bedrooms are situated on the ground floor, 'Garden Wing'. These are contemporary in style and each has its own small patio, to catch the sun, and overlook a quiet area of the garden. The hotel caters both for visitors to the area and the many local guests who call in for meals and drinks.
