Visiting our daughter at York University. Did tourist things, walking and viewing and having fun. Ate in 3 different places and each was fantastic. Fair weather. Waggon & Horses was the perfect base, only 10 minutes from the centre of town. Excellent room, slept well and breakfast was all you could expect. Mandy & Paul were fun and informative without being "too much". We hope to return at some stage. Read less

York is a great place and for our first "tourist" visit, the Waggon & Horses was a perfect choice. Pub is interesting & quirky, good beer, well kept, great barstaff and fun landlord(s).
Dislikes:
Quite the opposite - we had a fine & fun 3 days. Thanks to Mandy & Paul.

Although the main reason for visiting York was to celebrate my Sister in Law's birthday, we decided to make a weekend of it and do some sightseeing in the city. We wanted somewhere near the city centre, with reasonable rates and with something a bit extra. In our case it was the fact that this was a proper pub with proper beer. Read less

We were made to feel welcome in a really nice traditional pub atmosphere. The room was clean and comfortable. The beer was excellent and prices not sky high. Breakfast was freshly cooked.

The room was warm and cosy; the landlord and landlady were friendly and down to earth; the pub was well positioned for walking into York; the free car parking was handy; the real ale was tasty!
Dislikes:
An unpredictable shower that ranged from cold to virtually scalding hot! No soap provided (but shampoo/conditioner/shower gel was).
