The Golden Fleece in the market square of Thirsk is listed as one of the oldest coaching inns in England. North Yorkshire is also rich in picturesque villages and market towns, Northallerton, Helmsley, Bedale and Leyburn amongst others, are well known for their fully stocked markets and local shops which provide an excellent day out. A drive to York or Harrogate brings sights and shopping of a more sophisticated kind.
