Beds comfy, yummy breakfast, friendly staff, simple but perfectly adequate bathroom,. But we had a blocked sink which took the team too long to attend to, and then in the room we were moved to, the radiator didn't work too well (it was a cold night). Also no one warned us that we shouldn't park on the market square and we were saddled with a fixed penalty notice... The hotel might have heped out here. Read less

"What a View!"
Offered a choice of rooms - we chose one approached up a stone spiral staircase situated above one of the ancient gateways with wonderful views of the cathedral and a very creaky four poster bed. Very friendly welcome and again at breakfast in the sister hotel across the street. If we had one complaint it was that the shower lacked power, but what can we expect in a building this old? Would stay again. Read less

The Ancient Guest House Hotel is a family run, 2 star, Grade II listed building set on Wells Cathedral Green, facing the cathedral’s beautiful West Front. It was built in the 15th Century and has been run by the same family for the last 31 years.
Ideally located in the centre of Wells, we are a short stroll from Bishop’s Palace, the moat and Vicar’s Close, said to be the oldest inhabited street in Europe. We are also only 5-10 minutes drive from a number of walks on The Mendips. Clarks factory outlet village is just 1—15 minutes drive and we are also only 2 miles from Wookey Hole Caves and 9 miles from Cheddar Gorge.
Our acclaimed bedrooms are all individually decorated whilst still featuring some of the more interesting historical features of the building. Modern necessities such as hairdryers, colour televisions, tea/coffee making facilities, and telephone with modem come as standard in the rooms. There is Wi-Fi access in some rooms and all communal areas.
The unique atmosphere at our guest house is complemented by our award-winning Rugantino Restaurant specialising in authentic Italian cuisine. With its friendly staff and warm, cosy surroundings, the Rugantino Restaurant provides the ideal setting for that special meal. The restaurant also prepares traditional English table d'hôte menus.
Environmental Statement
Recycling of glass, bottles and cardboard. We have water saving devices in all toilets and notes in all bedrooms requesting if guests need their towels washed and dried or if can be reused.
