"Welcoming and friendly"
The couple running the B&B are very friendly and nothing appears to be too much trouble. Having arrived late afternoon having been shown to our room we were then invited to the sitting room for tea and cake, a lovely touch. The breakfast was very good. Tim was a fountain of knowledge about the local area and we followed his guidance discovering places we wouldnt have gone to were it not for his advice. All in all we found the location very good and had a good relaxing time. Read less

Originally the gamekeeper's lodge for the Oldstone Estate in the 18th century, Woodside Cottage has now been transformed into an exceptionally comfortable B&B of great character. Standing high on the side of a classically beautiful South Devon valley, it is ideally located down a quiet country lane only 4 miles outside Dartmouth, and it is equally convenient for access to the glorious unspoilt coastline leading from Slapton Sands round Start Point to Salcombe.
The cottage is also just half a mile from the ancient but still thriving village of Blackawton (mentioned in the Domesday Book), which has its own post office and two pubs, one of which is a gastropub renowned throughout the Dartmouth area for the outstanding quality of its food. The other is an excellent traditional pub of a type which is becoming increasingly rare in Britain.
All our rooms share the same stunning views along the valley towards Start Point lighthouse, and the loom from the light can easily be seen after dark. No effort or expense has been spared in refurbishing and maintaining our bedrooms to the highest possible standards in keeping with the character of our cottage. The care and attention paid to every detail is matched by our selection of the very best local and organic ingredients for our fine country breakfasts.
Environmental Statement
We already have a Green Tourism Award. We have a policy of not buying anything from supermarkets that is not strictly necessary. So our meat comes from a high qulity local butcher, and it can be traced to local stock. We bake our own bread, we make our own muesli, we squeeze our own orange juice, we make our own marmalade, and our jams are also home made. The difference that this makes to the quality of our breakfasts is obvious. Almost all our supplies are delivered directly to us, which cuts down on our use of the car.
