"Perfect cosy cottage"
Ideal location for a rural retreat close to urban facilities. The cottage is pretty and very comfortable. Due to the heavy snow, we found ourselves in a "winter wonderland" and were very appreciative of having such a lovely warm and comfortable place to relax and to get together with our family who live close by. Likes:
The homely feel of the cottage and the level of comfort. We enjoyed lovely walks in the local area in the thick snow.
Dislikes:
Not being able to stay longer and get out and about after the snow cleared. There are so many great places to visit in Northumberland - maybe next time.

"A stunning cottage in a perfect location"
The cottage was of a very high standard with everything we could possibly need. The owners gave us a warm and friendly welcome. It was in a very peaceful and quiet location yet only eight miles from Newcastle city centre. There are many varied attractions to visit within easy reach even at this time of year, something to appeal to every taste. Read less

A lovely cottage set in a country park which looked just like a winter wonderland with all the snow. This was one of the best cottages we have stayed in during our thirty-five years of cottage holiday

Puffing Billy Cottage sits in a row of Victorian cottages, surrounded by beautiful countryside and although located just 6 miles upstream from the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, is surprisingly tranquil - enjoying the benefit of being within the Tyne Riverside Country Park and situated on the Roman Wall route of Hadrian's Way and National Cycle route number 72.

The Countryside Park, which has recently been awarded Green Flag status offers lovely flat car-free and child friendly rural walks and cycle tracks accessible to all abilities. Nearby is an award winning real ale microbrewery and pub which serves food. The Newburn Activity Centre which is also a short walk away has a wide variety of activities including a creche and soft play as well as a gym, fitness suite, climbing wall and cycle hire. In addition, Puffing Billy Cottage is within close proximity of a whole range of attractions - the cinemas, theatres, restaurants, galleries and shops of the vibrant city of Newcastle; the extraordinary music and arts venue at The Sage in Gateshead and the 'Millennium Eye' Bridge, crossing over the River Tyne.

The nearby Metro Centre is Europe's biggest shopping centre. There is also an abundance of interesting visitor attractions close by, including Beamish Museum, the North of Englands Open Air Museum which brings the past to life, the bustling market town of Hexham, dominated by its magnificent abbey, sitting in the heart of 'Hadrian's Wall Country' only 15 miles to the west and Alnwick Castle and Garden.
