A quintessential Scottish Country House which was home to one of Scotland’s most distinguished noble families – the Spens of Lathallan - Craigsanquhar House near Cupar in the beautiful Kingdom of Fife, will never be found lacking when it comes to plentiful history or character. Dating from 1385, Craigsanquhar (meaning Sanctuary on a hill) is set in 36 acres of peaceful gardens and enjoys superb countryside views. Just 6 miles from St. Andrews - the mecca for golf lovers everywhere – its location is also convenient enough to allow day trips to Edinburgh or up to the Highlands of Scotland, with Highland Perthshire easily reached in just an hour. The East Neuk of Fife, with its charming fishing villages and gorgeous beaches is also easily accessible, enabling guests to enjoy the very best of Scotland from coast to City to hill and glen.
The picturesque House is noted for its impressive grey stonework and double bay windows at the front as well as its rich history. Parts of the original tower house, lived in by the early Spens family, remain along with archery butts to the north-east of the House, and a walled garden which dates from the 1790’s. The architect of the house as it stands today is William Burn, the architect of many distinguished buildings in Edinburgh.
Inside, Craigsanquhar House is just as happy to show off its authentic credentials with an abundance of charm and original features which are now combined with the very best of Scottish hospitality and customer care for the 21st Century to present a very special place to stay.
Craigsanquhar is a luxurious 4 star retreat tucked away in rural seclusion. Choose from thirteen decadent and individual Suites and bedrooms, all lavishly furnished and featuring solid wood four poster beds; rich drapes, chaise-lounges and chandeliers. This, together with a two AA rosette restaurant serving the very best of Scotland’s Larder on a plate will guarantee an enjoyable stay at Craigsanquhar.
