"Nice small hotel"
Although Hotel knew we were arriving at 3 pm, and despite being 15 minutes late, we couldn't gain access. Apparently staff were made aware of our arrival but couldn't be roused by bell nor manager who had main telephone transferred to his mobile. he was able to appear to let us in after 5 minutes. The promised free drink before our meal DIDN'T happen as it was on our bill next morning. We had been attracted to the hotel to celebrate my wife's 65th birthday by an excellent newspaper review . Likes:
superb room; attentive waiting staff in the evening ; morning waiter was very dozy however (waited 10 minutes before he appeared)
Dislikes:
The web site said a la carte and table d'hote menus; however the sole option was the Christmas menu. Food was very tasty but not' cordon bleu'.Breakfast was disappointing -'standard items' said waiter

Lovely room
Dislikes:
Difficult to find staff to ask questions e.g about getting in late after being out to Inverness / about wifi access etc. To be expected to pay for wifi access in this day is not at all good.
Response from Kinkell House Hotel:
Hi Win, many thanks for your comments they are much appreciated and taken on board. The reason for the charge for the wifi is that we are unable to receive broadband in the area and the Scottish government wouldnt fund a programme to provide it, so we therefore have to use sattellite broadband which costs in excess of £150.00 per mnth to provide hence the £5 charge which is a one off payment for the duration of stay, hope this explains the situation, Regards Jamie Maclennan.

Kinkell House Hotel is a small Country House peacefully situated in its own grounds surrounded by trees and pasture land. The charming 150 year old converted farm house is located on the Black Isle in Ross-shire sitting above the Cromarty Firth, with spectacular views across the firth to Ben Wyvis and the mountains to the west Coast of Scotland.

Kinkell House Hotel is ideally situated two and a half hours from John O'Groats, one hour from Ullapool and the Western Isles, two and a half hours from Portree on the Isle of Skye and half an hour from the infamous Loch Ness.

The general area is steeped in history, including, Culloden Moor in Inverness, the Standing Stones on Lewis and the magnificent Dunrobin Castle near Golspie, to name but a few.
