THE AULD KIRK

The Auld Kirk is a 4 star hotel situated in the heart of picturesque Royal Deeside this fine historic former church provides an excellent base for those wishing to tour the areas in and around the Cairngorms National Park. Set in the heart of Royal Deeside, the Auld Kirk is a fine example of a Victorian Scottish Free Church building.

Sensitively converted in 1986 to a small hotel , the Auld Kirk has built a reputation for good food, comfortable accommodation and a warm welcome that is the hallmark of Scottish hospitality.

A programme of refurbishment was commenced in 2006 and the Auld Kirk was re-launched as a ‘Restaurant with Rooms’ to more accurately describe the emphasis placed on the provision of fine local food and the scale and high standard of accommodation offered. At the Auld Kirk we take food seriously. We aim wherever possible to provide the best of fresh, local, seasonal produce cooked and presented with care.

All our bedrooms are on the first floor and all have now been fully refurbished. We provide a range of guest amenities in each room including refreshment trays, iron and ironing boards, hairdryers, televisions, direct dial telephones with voicemail and, in the majority of rooms, wireless internet access (bring your own laptop).

A wide range of activities and interests can be found on our doorstep. Scenic walks begin 100m from the Auld Kirk, ranging from a gentle stroll along the banks of the river Dee to an energetic climb up Craigendarroch Hill, or through the Pannanich forest where deer, red squirrels and the elusive and now rare Capercaillie can be found. For those wishing to be a little more adventurous Balalter is surrounded by stunning peaks such as Lochnagar, beautiful forests and sporting estates including Balmoral and Glen Tanar and of course lots of water.
