The Bateman Arms is an 18th Century, three storey coaching inn situated in the small village of Shobdon in the unspoilt County of Herefordshire, just a few miles from the Welsh Border. The Bateman Arms has three main guest rooms situated on the first floor and a further six en-suite rooms in the refurbished Coach House.

I had booked online and drove 3 hours through pouring rain to get there. Was a bit concerned when the hotel didn't know I was coming but that was soon put to mends by the landlady with a gratis pint. I think the husband got it though as he hadn't checked his emails (know the feeling) Had a very nice room in the annex. Slept well in very comfy double bed and was impressed with the powerful shower. Good breakfast and then I left. Read less

There's plenty to do to revive your spirits. Historic houses, local museums, a visit to castle ruins - an evocative reminder of early border strife - gardens range from the delights of the traditional cottage garden to formal gardens with statuary and flowing water in a country house setting. Families are especially welcome in Herefordshire with a wealth of interesting animals and birds to visit and activities to enjoy.
The Inn itself offers a wealth of character; you can sit in the friendly and relaxed atmosphere of the bar with its oak beams and large fireplace, where we serve a selection of light meals. Alternatively you can eat in our restaurant, which offers a menu of locally produced and sourced dishes.
