she showed us her home with all of its treasures which she had bought on her holidays and it was very interesting for both my husband and myself . the cats were a lovely addition and we would definately stay there again but hopefully this time in the warmer weather when we could make use of all the gardens and surrounding areas . A beautiful house in a spectatacular area. The owner is a delight, very warm, very helpful. For cat lovers, as we are, it was a joy to see such lovely creatures wandering the house and garden. Also the paintings, scuptures and feline ornaments that adorn the house and garden were a real treat to see. The breakfast was very varied, or traditional, whichever you prefer, but deliciously fresh and of excellent quality. Read less

We are slightly biased towards the cats! But the room was spacious, as was the en-suite, very good facilities and little extras in the room.
We dined locally and had a day shopping in Hexham.

Thornley House is a Visit Britain 4 Star Rated guesthouse located in the beautiful countryside of Northumberland, near the village of Allendale and the market town of Hexham.
Hadrian's Wall is only 20 minutes drive away, whilst Beamish Museum, Kielder Water and the stately homes of Wallington Hall and Cragside are a few of the many attractions within easy reach. For those who enjoy walking and bird watching, there are many interesting and spectacular walks (maps provided).
Thornley also provides alternative accommodations for those attending weddings at nearby Langley Castle. There is a Steinway Grand piano in the music room, and a 42 inch plasma TV in the TV lounge. A B&B for lovers of fine cats and fine gardens, there are two huge resident Maine Coons and three glorious moggies. The garden is part of the National Gardens Scheme and opens to the public two days a year for the Red Cross. It has been featured on the front page of the Hexham Courant, and in 2008 in Amateur Gardener and in the Northumbrian. There are plenty of hammocks and seats in the garden for use by guests.
Thornley House has its own long, tree-lined drive, is surrounded by a field and a wood which is part of the garden, and has a pussy-cat cemetary. Pets welcome. Dinner is available when there is a minimum of four guests. Three day Christmas break (full board) available.
