Vallum lodge is central to Carlisle and Newcastle, and situated just below Hadrians wall by steelrigg, ideal if you plan to do some walking, it's close to the roman settlements in the area.
Dislikes:
there is nothing to dislike about vallum lodge, this is my third stay with my daughter and if we feel a need to revisit Cumbria this is where we will stay

The breakfast as there was a good choice of cereals, fresh fruit and pastries followed by a delicious cooked breakfast.
Dislikes:
The double bed was not very comfortable and we did not sleep very well.

Thank you Jenny for your positive review. After you mentioned the bed to us we tried it and agreed that, although only 2 years old, it should perhaps be replaced. At the end of each busy season we try out the rooms ourselves to make sure that everything is as comfortable as possible for the next year. Consequently as part of our normal winter refurbishments we have replaced that bed and several others. We hope to welcome you here again in the future..

Relax in the comfortable residents lounge which contains a selection of games, books, magazines, travel guides and TV/DVD.
A substantial breakfast is cooked to order while you help yourself to our cold buffet of juices, fresh fruits, cereals, yoghourts etc.
If you are arriving by car we have a large private car park and we are within easy reach of all the major Roman sites. The beautiful Northumberland coast, the North Pennines, Kielder Forest and the North Lakes are all within an hour’s drive.
We are ideally situated for walkers and cyclists - we have secure storage for cycles - and we can help you with planning your itinerary, luggage forwarding and lifts to and from the Hadrians Wall Trail. We will pick you up from local transport links at no extra charge. Wet walking gear can be dried for you and we can provide laundry facilities if required
