Montcoffer

Montcoffer was built by the local potter in 1936. The stables detached from the main house offer luxury private accommodation. If you require comfort, privacy, style and something out of the ordinary then come and stay with us. We are in a wonderful village location just 10 minutes drive from the most scenic part of Hadrian's wall and the Roman forts of Vindolanda and Housesteads.

We have enhanced the character of the rooms with pitch pine floors, beamed ceilings, antique oak headboards and a stone fireplace for our custom built wood burning stove. All this plus all mod cons- including free wireless internet.

Dehlia's flair for design and John's quirky collecting nature are reflected in the decoration and range of artefacts in the rooms. Whilst at Montcoffer see the impressive hand made quilts, wall hangings and designer handbags - all designed and made by Dehlia and all for sale.

You can choose to stay either in the Barnard bedroom with its beautiful half-tester style bedhead and art-deco bathroom, or the grand Ridley room with its imposing oak bedhead and roomy walk-in shower. The Ridley room offers disabled access.

Breakfast is taken in the old beamed foaling room warmed by the fire on cold mornings. The horses have long gone so you can enjoy a relaxed start to the day selecting from our wide range of award winning breakfast options. For your evening meal you may like to walk to the village pub, only 100 yards from our door.

For the active and energetic there are beautiful walks and cycle rides from our front door- soak up the history, the clean fresh air and the wonderful views, see the salmon jumping on the South River Tyne or catch an early morning glimpse of the river otters, visit the Bowes Lyons village of Beltingham and hug the 2000 year old yew tree, climb up on the Fells and look down to the fortified Reivers farmsteads and across to Hadrian's Wall.
