"Excellent hotel, the best in Middlesbrough"
We have been stopping at the Grey House for the last 10
years when visitng out son about 4 or 5 times a year. It was excellent under the last owners a few years back, but the new owners somehow managed to improve things, so now its even better.
Highly recommended, the best in Middlesbrough. We have tried others when the Grey House is full, but always let down by service or cleanliness, so nice to find accomodation that lives up to its rating. Read less

The hotel was in a perfect location for the function that we were attending only a few hundred yards away. It was in a quiet area, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff (we only met one) were friendly and helpful and took a genuine interest in the guests without becoming intrusive. The breakfast was more than adequate for what we wanted. From the outside the building looks a little more "worn" than in the photo advertised but no matter. We would certainly stay here again. Likes:
Comfortable room and friendly service.
Dislikes:
It is a liitle too far from the centre of Middlesbrough. If not arrving by car then a taxi is needed to get around but this is a minor issue only costing a few pounds each way.

Grey House is an Edwardian property surrounded by attractive and established gardens, set in a quiet and private area just 5 minutes drive from the moors and 10 minutes from the coast. Grey House lacks any trace of stuffiness and has an abundance of easy-going warmth. It is an Edwardian property built in 1910, surrounded by attractive gardens, with trees, shrubs, conifers, rose and herbaceous borders. Décor and furnishings are in keeping with the character of the beautiful Edwardian building. The homely atmosphere will immediately put you at ease.
It is a 10-15 minutes walk from The Dorman Museum, The Captain Cook museum and Stuart’s Park, complete with lambs, goats, sheep, owls and even squirrels that are tame enough to feed! The town centre is only 15 minutes walk, whilst the train station is a 5-10 minute cab ride away. If travelling further, we are 10 minutes drive from Redcar and the coast, 30-40 minutes from Whitby and 45 minutes from Yarm and the cathedral cities of Durham and York.
Relax in the guest sitting room, which has views over the garden lawn, or the elegant breakfast room, where you can enjoy a delicious home cooked breakfast. The hotel has been awarded a 4 star food quality award.
Free parking and wireless internet access is available in the guest lounges. A PC can also be made available for guests’ use. Freeview TV is available in the lounge and double rooms.
