"Warm and friendly place"
The Royal Lodge has very friendly and helpful staff. We had a very good breakfast with good quality ingredients. The views from the Lodge are stunning, but although the bedroom was large it was a bit disappointing in that it could use some modernisation and the sliding bathroom door squeaked loudly. Not good at 4.30am. Overall though, we enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Read less

"An improvement on our last stay in 2006 but the boiler/heating still needs replacing"
This was our 2ns time at this Hotel. Last stay was 2006. Back tehnt he place was in need of much restoration and was really in no fit state to be open. The windows were rotten, there was no hot water and the heating didn't work. There was poor decoration and damp. The only reson we stayed was due to the Chef and no other hotels in Symonds Yat open.
Glad to say the new owners have done a good job of restoring the rooms to acceptable standards. Couldn't comment on food - the kitchen was closed! Read less
Likes:
The decorative standard of the rooms. The comfy bed. Double Glazing!! Peace and quiet. Warm fire in the bar. Good whiskey. The views - but then we are very familiar with everything in Symonds Yat.
Dislikes:
No hot water at key times of the day. Poor heating. As was case in 2006. Owners say the boiler is still an issue. Not advised in advance that the kitchen would be closed. No staff on reception.

The Royal Lodge at Symonds Yat East has an idyllic setting in the heart of the Wye Valley. It is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty where the River Wye cuts a swathe through a wooded gorge on the edge of the spectacular Royal Forest of Dean. Nestled just below Symonds Yat Rock, it stands exclusively in grounds of almost 5 acres overlooking the river. It has terraced gardens of magnolia trees and a well established wisteria. The Royal was originally built in 1876 as a royal hunting lodge and was converted to a hotel in the 1920's.

The Royal Lodge is an ideal place to spend a relaxing break in a beautiful setting. It is in close proximity to numerous outdoor activities such as canoeing, abseiling, caving, kayaking, golf, cycling, walking and horse-riding. The hotel is also well situated to explore the Wye Valley, Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and the South Wales coast.

It boasts 20 ensuite bedrooms, which are arranged to take advantage of our unique position on the edge of the River Wye and make the most of the views. Every room faces the tranquil river. We have a comfortable family lounge where you can enjoy our real fire in winter and where you can read or play board-games.
