"Quirky but friendly"
If you are expecting modern - don't stay in this hotel but if you are looking for friendly and comfortable in an olde worlde country environment this could be the place. We stayed in February and it was cold and wet outside but inside was warm and cosy. The public areas have been refurbished to a good standard. The bedroom we stayed in was clean but could do with some TLC over time. For a couple of days stay it was great. The bed was comfortable, and the shower hot with strong water pressure Read less

I organised a surprize birthday party for my partner with 8 close friends. Bowlish House was extremely helpful, friendly and courteous.
The room (4 poster) was large, comfortable and very clean. The hotel is old and quirky, which adds to its charm. Other reviews had slightly alarmed me, but you have to remember, that this is a really good restaurant with interesting and quaint rooms.
The food and service was exceptional, and all the party had a really brilliant time. Thank you. Read less

Bowlish House offers you a home from home without the hassle, but with a warm and friendly welcome. Each bedroom has its own style whilst retaining the original character of the house. There is a first floor guest lounge to relax in and a fully licensed restaurant to enjoy the taste of the West.

It is close to the Mendip hills, the cathedral city of Wells, Glastonbury, Wookey Hole and Cheddar.

This Georgian Palladian house, classed as Grade II*, has various features of special interest – the original Mendip lead drainpipes at the front carry the crest of the original owners and the year of completion, 1732. The walls and pillars topped with urns which formed the entrance of the old gardens are also singled out for specific mention.

A small spring rises under the cellar of Bowlish House and links up with an underground stream routed diagonally across the cellar floor just under the old flagstones. Thus the temperature of the large cellars is more constant than otherwise and varies by no more than 2 or 3 degrees either side of the ideal 50 ºF.

Bowlish House is an interesting and peaceful location in which to escape and enjoy top quality food, or to get away from it all with friends and family.
