The hotel is in a quiet location down a lane and can be a little bit difficult to find on a dark, rainy night (over the small bridge and to right). I have stayed there a number of times, each time the welcome and overall hospitality has been excellent. The food is of a high quality with good service to compliment the dining experience. The beds are comfy with good pillows and a thick duvet. There is no bar, but a comfy lounge with a well stocked drinks cabinet - staff servies only I think Read less

"Hotel with charm & character"
We were attending a wedding in Glossop and this hotel was recommended for us. The room (Erika Louise) was a lovely surprise - full of charm & character with antique furniture and a lovely outlook from the window. Very comfortable and nicely equipped. The bathroom, with a large free standing bath and antique fittings, was a great surprise and very relaxing for a nice, long soak. The copy of Wind in The Willows in amongst the books and the miniature bathroom fittings were both nice touches. Read less

The breakfast was one of the best I have ever had. Cooked to order and offering plenty of choice, it was so personal and served in a charming room overlooking the gardens. Everything was perfect.

The Wind in the Willows is a delightful early-Victorian country house, which has retained its original charms, including oak panelled rooms, traditional furnishings, and open log fires. The hotel is situated within five acres of land amidst unspoilt views of the Peak District National Park, and is surrounded by the heather clad hills of the Pennines. The setting provides an escape from the pressures of modern day life into the atmosphere and elegant surroundings of a bygone era.

There are many varied walks on the doorstep and a 9 hole golf course opposite the hotel. Local attractions include, Chatsworth House, Castleton Caves and Caverns, Holmfirth the Last of the Summer Wine country, The Lowry Gallery in Manchester, with Manchester International Airport 14 miles away. All rooms are individually designed, with no two alike, most are double with queen-sized beds, and others are twin bedded.

Our hotel has gained a reputation for first class home cooking, served in the delightful surroundings of the charming period dining room. In order to maintain the peace and quiet, for which we have become renowned, we do not have a restaurant open to the general public, instead we serve a three course dinner to residents and their invited guests between 7:00 and 8:00. Wifi is available throughout the hotel and there is parking for guests.

We are unable to accommodate children under 10 years of age.
