Church House

Church House is a beautiful Georgian town house with large grounds in the old part of Kington, a quiet old market town in the lovely rolling hills of west Herefordshire, just 2 miles from the Welsh border. The house faces south-east, and all the rooms have fine views over Kington to the hills beyond. It is largely furnished with furniture in keeping with the house's 18th century character. Breakfast is taken in our splendid dining room with its full-length sash window that gives onto the lawn. We are particularly proud of our home-made jams and marmalade - you'll get none of those nasty sachets of commercial preserves in this place! Outside, the lawn leads to a ha-ha, which is supposed to stop sheep grazing in our field from getting on to the lawn. (It doesn't always work!). Our guests are always welcome to use any part of the garden, and they can often be seen sitting for hours on a bench with a tray of tea and a good book, or snoozing in the sunshine on a rug.

There are two bedrooms for guests - a double and a twin. The twin has a basin in it. Both bedrooms face south-east (over the garden) - so they are not overlooked by anyone, and passing traffic is virtually inaudible, even with the window open.

Next to the double room is the guests' bathroom - which you will have to share with the people in the other room (if any), but not with us. This bathroom is large and rather splendid, with a big old-fashioned cast-iron roll-top bath. Our guests always seem to enjoy our bathroom rather more than the 'en-suite' arrangements elsewhere which so often are just a rather smelly shower-room in their bedroom cupboard! In this house, we are 'off-suite' - and proud of it!
