I was on business near Oxford but wanted to stay in Wantage to combine my visit with friends nearby. The Bear's website looked interesting and the location was perfect as it is in the centre of Wantage.
The experience though was not one I intend to repeat. I paid XXX for a single en-suite room with breakfast. When I checked in I was told my booking was room only and none of the documentation from the booking site proved it included breakfast. On top of that the shower barely worked. Read less

The location is very good, but I could not easily find a suitable place to park.
Dislikes:
Value for money - far too much money for a grubby room that they insisted was room only.
Facilities - the shower was little more than a drizzle, warm at best and liable to ran out of water

Avoid unless desperate, first night of stay toilet roll holder fell of wall, next morning on placing soap in soapdish in shower this fell of wall. Beds dangerous a piece of flat wood with a mattress placed on top whenever you turned over ,the mattress moved as no rim round bed to keep this in place. Coffee at breakfast was never hot just lukewarm , Toast was always cold and hard. Bedrooms were very warm, as was the water for shower. Read less

Hotel well situated(good location) No private Car park but very good reasonably priced parking facilities nearby. Dining Room and small quiet reading room were furnished O.K.
Dislikes:
Not a lot of space in Bedroom and en suite very tiny. Also the very strange uncomfortable/dangerous beds

The Bear Hotel has 37 en suite bedrooms all with hospitality trays, direct dial telephone, trouser press and hair dryer. All rooms have colour remote control televisions with sky sports 1, 2 and 3 plus premier movie channel along with the normal 5 channels.
Our The spacious oak beamed Alexander's Restaurant is one of the outstanding features of the hotel. Situated on the first floor with views over the market place and courtyard, the Restaurant provides excellent service to both residents and non-residents and offers a very high standard of cuisine with sophisticated A la Carte and comprehensive Table d'Hote menus.
The restaurant is open each day for diners seeking a leisurely meal in comfortable surroundings or business people requiring quiet and discreet surroundings with excellent food and fine wines.
At the end of the day the candlelit atmosphere of the restaurant provides the perfect setting for an intimate dinner party.
We are also located near to Blenheim Palace, Oxford City, The Cotswold Wildlife Park, Newbury and many more places for a great day out.
