Only 3 miles from Belfast International Airport, very comfortable cottage on the shores of Lough Neagh offering two bedrooms and a cosy sitting room for the use of guests who have the opportunity to enjoy breakfasts using local produce. Only 30 minutes from Belfast city centre, less than that for Ballymena and Lisburn, 10 minutes for Antrim and Crumlin and close to major road networks so the rest of Northern Ireland is easily accessible. I was made very welcome indeed, the facilities were exceptionally good and the food was really lovely. Fantastic value and I'll certainly be back. So warm I had to take cardigan off - doesn't happen often I can assure you in the winter! Read less
Likes:
Really convenient location but also potentially scenic (I couldn't see the view as arrived and left in the dark) so good combination. It all had a very cosy, friendly, looked after feel.
Dislikes:
Absolutely nothing! Couldn't fault it.

Bay Cottage is on the shores of Lough Neagh, but convenient for the major road networks so other parts of Northern Ireland are easily accessible for work or leisure. The two bedrooms are furnished with an eclectic mix of new and antique furniture with comfortable beds and chairs in each room. One room is en suite and the other has a private bathroom, both have views of the Lough. Binoculars are provided for those who wish to view the wildlife, particularly the birds, the rooms also have TVs, clocks, hairdryers and of course hospitality trays and tea/coffee and cake or scones are offered on arrival in the guest sitting room. This is a large room with a multi fuel stove which ensures there is a cosy atmosphere for watching TV or reading and there are tables for those who need to work. There is an extensive collection of tourist literature for guests and also a fiction library as well as jigsaws and board games.
Breakfasts are excellent using free range eggs from our own hens (foxes permitting) and locally produced pork products, home baked wheaten or soda bread and home made preserves, as well as fruit and yoghurt. Evening meals are available by arrangement again using local produce whenever feasible. Using local produce is an important part of our environmentally friendly policy as is using environmentally friendly cleaning products and recycling. There is a lack of public transport but we are on Sustrans Route 94 so welcome cyclists and other modes of transport, particularly motor bikes. We are happy to collect and deliver guests to local transport hubs.
We are half way between Antrim and Crumlin, both attractive areas offering a range of restaurants and attractions. Antrim has a round tower, the oldest Courthouse in Ireland (now a Tourist Information Centre), Clotworthy Gardens and for the sporty, two golf courses, an excellent Leisure Centre and Junction One Shopping Centre.
Environmental Statement
In an attempt to reduce our impact on the environment we try to grow our own vegetables (varying degree of success), we keep rare breed pigs during the summer which are then sent off to provide the bacon and sausage we use for breakfasts and of course we have free range hens, to the delight of local foxes. When purchasing food we try to buy local produce or fairtrade. We recycle as much as possible and encourage our guests to assist in this. We try to ensure our toiletries and cleaning products have no harmful chemicals.
